Chelsea FC have reportedly joined the race to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Turkish club Galatasaray.
According to reports from Turkey, Galatasaray are demanding €150 million for the Super Eagles star.
The transfer rumours gained attention after Nigeria coach Eric Chelle left Osimhen out of the squad for upcoming friendly matches against Poland and Portugal.
Chelle said he wanted the striker to focus on his future because a possible club transfer was being discussed.
However, Osimhen quickly denied the reports. In a post on Instagram, he said Chelle’s comments had been misunderstood and taken out of context.
Osimhen explained that the coach respects Galatasaray and never intended to create any controversy. He urged fans and the media to ignore the transfer speculation.
Nigeria’s media team also clarified the coach’s statement shortly after it sparked widespread discussions.
Despite Osimhen’s denial, interest in the striker remains strong across Europe.
He has previously been linked with Manchester United, where reports claim he is one of the club’s top transfer targets. Sources close to the player say he would only leave if Galatasaray decide to sell him.
Turkish newspaper Sabah reports that Chelsea have now made contact regarding a possible summer move and are expected to make an official approach when the transfer window opens. Galatasaray, however, are unwilling to accept any offer below €150 million.
Osimhen enjoyed another impressive season for the Turkish champions. He scored 15 league goals and provided five assists in 22 matches as Galatasaray retained the Super Lig title.
He also recorded seven goals and three assists in the UEFA Champions League, helping the club reach the Round of 16.
