Defending champion Goodness Nwachukwu delivered an outstanding performance to win Nigeria’s seventh gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after breaking the world record in the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus event.
Nwachukwu saved her best throw for the final round of the competition, recording a distance of 39.66 metres. The remarkable effort shattered her own F42 world record by more than three metres and sealed another Commonwealth Games gold medal for the Nigerian athlete.
Wales’ Funmi Oduwaiye finished in second place to claim the silver medal with a throw of 38.52 metres, while her compatriot Bree Cronin secured the bronze medal after producing a season’s best throw of 36.00 metres.
Nigeria also enjoyed success in the women’s shot put event, where Jessica Oji won the silver medal with a throw of 17.87 metres.
Her impressive performance added another medal to Team Nigeria’s growing tally at the Games.
Nwachukwu’s victory further strengthened Team Nigeria’s campaign in Glasgow, with the country’s athletes continuing to impress across several events. The latest medals have helped Nigeria maintain a strong position on the overall medals table.
At the end of the day’s events, Team Nigeria occupied fifth place on the medals table with a total of 14 medals, made up of seven gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
