Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has secured her place in the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after producing a brilliant performance in the heats.
The reigning world record holder comfortably won her heat in a remarkable time of 12.19 seconds, setting a new Commonwealth Games record.
Her performance was the fastest ever recorded in the history of the Games and also ranks as the third fastest time of her career.
Amusan looked confident from the start of the race and maintained her speed over every hurdle to finish well ahead of the rest of the field.
Her impressive display has strengthened expectations that she could successfully defend her Commonwealth Games title.
South Africa’s Marione Fourie finished second in the heat with a time of 12.50 seconds, while Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill came third after crossing the finish line in 12.69 seconds. Both athletes also progressed, but Amusan’s performance stood out as the best of the qualifying rounds.
The Nigerian sprint hurdler will return to the track later on Thursday for the final, where she will be aiming to win a third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.
Achieving that feat would further cement her status as one of the greatest athletes ever to compete in the event.
With her outstanding form and record-breaking performance in the heats, Amusan enters the final as the overwhelming favourite to retain her title.
Nigerian fans will be hoping she can produce another dominant display and add another gold medal to the country’s tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
