The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has started an investigation into the chaos that followed Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final in Marrakech.
According to Africa Soccer, CAF is studying reports from match officials, security officers, and media personnel who were present at the game.
Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams scored in the second half to help the Super Eagles qualify for the semi-finals.
After the final whistle, Algerian players became angry and accused the referees of making unfair decisions.
Some of the players attempted to attack referee Issa Sy and his assistants before stadium security stepped in to stop them.
There were also problems in the stands, as some Algerian fans tried to force their way past security barriers and reportedly damaged parts of the stadium.
CAF is expected to take disciplinary action after completing its investigation.
