Nigerian instrumentalist and singer Seun Kuti had earlier gone live, answering some questions thrown at him by social media handlers. The singer had been accused of pushing Martin Otse also known as VeryDarkMan to act the way he does behind the scenes and masterminding his NGO.
Seun Kuti being known for sharing his unbiased stands on society and entertainment issues, had gone live in the early hours of Friday, 25th October 2024 to share his take on certain issues and touched on that of VeryDarkMan.
Seun Kuti who happens to be the last son of the legendary Afrobeat singer Fela stated that VeryDarkMan is an adult and has been acting on his own accord.
VeryDarkMan had announced his NGO few weeks ago sharing the account details so donations could be made. In just a couple of days and weeks the NGO received over 200 million Naira worth of contributions. The influencer had received a donation of 100 million Naira from Nigerian record producer Don Jazzy, which sparked reactions online.
During the Live session, Seun Kuti addressed the issue of many assuming he is the mastermind behind some of VeryDarkMan’s moves. He further explained to his fans that VeryDarkMan does as he pleases, and all he can do is to support him. He also said that he personally does not like charity but is a huge fan of allowing people to do whatever they choose to do that their real intentions can shine through.
Seun Kuti’s father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti had died in the year 1997 leaving Seun to take the role of leading Egypt 80. He featured in Calle 13’s song ‘Todo Se Mueve’ ( Everything moves) and also was also a featured guest on ‘85 to Africa’ the second album of American rapper Jidenna.
Kuti’s ‘Black Times’ was nominated for the Grammys, in the World Music Category in 2018, which made him the second child of Fela Kuti to be considered for this award. His elder brother Femi Kuti was previously nominated in the same category.
