At a time when Governor Umaru Fintiri publicly parted ways with the Turaki Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar and threw the former Vice President’s presidential ambition under the bus, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has vowed never to betray his political benefactor, Ibrahim Gaidam.
Top Society reports that this is an unusual commitment and disposition in Nigeria’s political milieu, considering recent fights between Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike which took repeated interventions from President Bola Tinubu to be brought under control.
Buni spoke on Tuesday while addressing delegates at the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) congress held in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
He said, “I would rather die than betray him. I remain deeply grateful to him for the role he played in my political journey. I will never forget where I am coming from, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me.”
The Governor pointed out that he can’t imagine working against the interests of his benefactor because his political ascendancy is built on trust and insisted that betrayal had never been part of his record.
“I am a product of trust. I have never betrayed anybody; it is not in my record. I always want to be remembered as someone who never betrays anybody,” he added.
Buni charged newly elected party officials to remain steadfast, urging them to uphold trust and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He also outlined achievements recorded in the past seven years of his administration, particularly in education, primary healthcare, empowerment, and commerce, assuring residents that these sectors would continue to receive priority attention.
As per who takes over from him, Buni called on members of the APC in the state to pray for divine guidance in the emergence of the party’s next governorship candidate.
He urged party faithful to support a candidate with the capacity to unite members and sustain the “good works” of his administration.
