A public affairs analyst, Mahdi Shehu, has warned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) not to celebrate too soon after its recent Supreme Court victory.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shehu said that although the party may feel happy about the judgment, it could come with serious risks if they become too relaxed.
He explained that the ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria is not the final decision. According to him, the judgment only addresses an interim issue and not the main case.
Shehu said the case will continue at the Federal High Court of Nigeria, where the main matter will be decided.
He also pointed out that the schedule of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is strict and cannot be changed because it follows the Electoral Act.
He warned that more legal battles are likely. If either the Nafiu group or the David Mark group loses at the lower court, they will likely appeal the decision up to higher courts again.
Shehu added that even if ADC eventually wins the case at the highest level, the victory might come too late to be useful. By then, INEC may have already made decisions that cannot be reversed.
He advised the party to stay alert, prepare well, and expect more political and legal challenges ahead.
