The Senate passed the Nigeria Police Trust Fund’s (NPTF) budget for the year, totaling N57,014,287,532.00. The Capital Expenditure stands at N47,024,803,541.18, with a Total Recurrent Expenditure of N9,989,483,990.00.
The approval followed the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committees on Police Affairs’ meticulous consideration and adoption of the budget proposal.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Ahmed Mallam-Madori, presented the report during plenary, emphasizing the importance of adequate funding for the NPTF.
Additionally, the Senate passed a bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin, Ekiti State. Mohammed Muntari, presenting the report, highlighted that the university aims to provide academic and professional programs, including diplomas, degrees, and postgraduate research.
The bill, sponsored by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, received widespread support during the October 26 plenary debate. The legislative framework is set to support the development and growth of the new university.
In another development, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Professor Tunji Olaopa as the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC). Committee Chairman Oluwole Fasuyi Cyril presented the report, expressing confidence in Olaopa’s ability to lead the commission effectively.

The Senate also confirmed the appointment of several members to the FCSC, representing various states and regions across the country.
They are: Dr. Daudu Ibrahim Jalo, member representing Adamawa/Gombe/Taraba; Obot Ededet Eyoma (representing Akwa Ibom/Cross River), Dr. Chamberlain Nwele (representing Anambra/Ebonyi/Enugu) and Mr. Rufus Godwins (representing Rivers/Delta/Bayelsa).
Others are: Dr. Adamu Hussein (Niger/FCT), Mr. Aminu Nabegu (Jigawa/Kano), Ms. Hindatu Abdullahi (Kaduna/Katsina), Mr. Shehu Aliyu (Kebbi/Sokoto/Zamfara), Ms. Odekunle Rukiyat Aduke (Kogi/Kwara), Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan (Lagos/Ogun) and Dr. Festus Oyebade (Osun/Oyo).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the committee for its thorough screening process and wished the nominees success in their service to the nation.
