Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he will return to Liverpool on the final day of this Premier League campaign after being invited back by his successor, Arne Slot.
Klopp has not been back at Anfield since he left at the end of last season. The German admits he did not want to return earlier to avoid jinxing the Reds’ bid to become Premier League champions.
Liverpool have exceeded all expectations in Slot’s first season in England. They are currently 13 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table and are set to be crowned champions.
Klopp, speaking during a fundraiser in Cape Town, said he plans to be in Liverpool but not on the team bus, instead celebrating with the people he had seen on the bus.
He explained that he deliberately stayed away earlier in the season because he did not want his presence to be associated with any potential loss.
Now that Liverpool’s title win is almost certain, he feels comfortable returning for the final game.
