I Almost Poisoned Myself-Actress Eniola Ajayi

Popular Yoruba actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao, has revealed how fake news on social media platforms almost drove her to poisoning herself.

Eniola Ajao made this known in a recent interview sharing her experience on Nollywood on Radio. A programme dedicated to Nigerian cinema, the actress revealed that the online misinformation had severely impacted her mental health. Narrating her experience with fake news, Ajao said she faced severe emotional distress that also led to her withdrawal from social activities.

She highlighted that, at the time, she was getting ready for her next film but the online false news on social media about her made it difficult for her to continue with her work.

She also revealed how she went seven days without food and it took the support of her son and loved ones for her in other not to poison herself.

“I almost poisoned myself because of news about me on social media that was far from true. It was the first time in my life to faced something so painful that I couldn’t eat for seven days. I didn’t go anywhere. People around me can testify to it.

“My sisters were calling, telling me, ‘You have to do this for yourself. You don’t have to poison yourself.’ My son was reaching out to everyone that I was struggling with the online lies.” She said.

Ajao’s first film role was in 2004 where she was cast in the film Ìgbà Aìmọ̀. Other films she has acted in include Eniola, Erin Orin, and Daramola. She starred in the 2018 film The Vendor. She also played the lead role in Yeye Alara, a film released in December 2018.

The actress was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Yoruba-language film at the 2015 Best of Nollywood Awards.
