Ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Chief Joseph Anifowose, has withdrawn from the race and declared support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Anifowose announced his decision during a rally in Igede-Ekiti on Tuesday. He said he stepped down because he wanted the development and progress in the state to continue under Oyebanji’s administration.
According to him, the governor has performed well in areas such as infrastructure, social services, and governance reforms over the last three and a half years.
He praised Oyebanji for working with former governors to develop the state and described him as a leader who has shown competence and commitment to Ekiti’s growth.
Anifowose also revealed that APM leaders and executives across the local governments had agreed to support Oyebanji’s re-election bid.
Earlier at a rally in Ilawe-Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu said the APC was determined to record a landslide victory in both the Ekiti governorship election and the 2027 presidential election.
They said the party wanted to secure another term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because of the support his administration has given to Ekiti State.
Oyebanji listed several projects completed or ongoing in the state, including major roads, hospital projects, and federal highway reconstruction works.
He also said the Federal Government was constructing two power transmission stations in Ilupeju Ekiti and Ijesa Isu Ekiti to improve electricity supply for homes and industries in the state.
The governor urged residents to support the APC in future elections as appreciation for the projects and appointments given to Ekiti indigenes by the Tinubu administration.
