Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said he has nothing to hide about how his administration has managed the state’s money.
Makinde made the statement while responding to comments by the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A Federal High Court in Ibadan had ruled on Wednesday that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) does not have the power to investigate the finances of the current Oyo State government.
Reacting to the court’s decision, the APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, said the EFCC would carry out its duties at the right time. The party also criticised the court’s ruling.
In response, Makinde said his administration has managed the state’s resources responsibly and has nothing to fear.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor explained that the state government only went to court to seek legal clarification over the EFCC’s request for copies of contracts and details of payments made to contractors between 2021 and 2025.
He said going to court was not an attempt to stop any investigation.
Makinde also described the APC’s claim that he was trying to avoid an investigation as false and without legal basis.
According to him, seeking the court’s interpretation of the law is a constitutional right and should not be seen as an admission of wrongdoing.
The governor insisted that neither he nor his administration has anything to hide and remains confident in how the state’s finances have been handled.
