Don’t Tell Jonathan What To Do — PDP Fires at Keyamo

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki has criticized the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, over his comments about former President Goodluck Jonathan and the 2027 presidential election.

The PDP said Keyamo has no moral right to tell Jonathan whether or not to contest the election.

Recently, Keyamo advised Jonathan not to run for president in 2027. However, the Turaki-led PDP faction has already declared Jonathan as its preferred presidential candidate for the election.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the party said it was surprising that Keyamo, who built his reputation by criticizing governments and defending democratic principles, is now trying to stop others from exercising their democratic rights.

The PDP recalled that Keyamo was once known for challenging those in power, speaking against injustice, and taking legal action to protect democracy.

The party accused him of remaining silent while the current administration allegedly restricts political opposition, yet criticizing citizens and political parties for expressing their political choices.

The statement urged Keyamo to focus on issues affecting the aviation sector and the country instead of interfering in PDP affairs.

According to the PDP, Nigerians are more concerned about rising economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and declining living standards than political advice directed at Jonathan.

The party also claimed that the current APC-led government has overseen worsening economic conditions, infrastructure failures, and corruption concerns, adding that these issues should be Keyamo’s priority.

The PDP further argued that many Nigerians still remember Jonathan’s administration for political stability, economic growth, increased investor confidence, and a more inclusive atmosphere.

It said this is why many citizens are encouraging Jonathan to return to power, believing he can help restore stability and reduce political tensions.

The party concluded by saying that no amount of intimidation or political pressure would stop Nigerians from supporting leaders of their choice or expressing their political preferences freely.
