The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has explained why the party lost the Anambra governorship election and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections.
He spoke on Tuesday during the party’s national convention.
Aregbesola said the ADC faced several challenges that led to its poor performance in the elections. According to him, the party suffered from weak funding and was not properly prepared.
He also accused their opponents of using the power of being in government to influence the elections. He said there was heavy spending of money and misuse of state resources by rival parties.
“Our party took part in the Anambra governorship election and the FCT local government election, but we did not win,” he said.
“This happened for many reasons. Our opponents used their position in government, spent a lot of money, and misused state power. On our side, we had poor funding and were not fully ready.”
Despite the losses, Aregbesola said the party has learned important lessons and is working to improve ahead of future elections.
He added that the ADC is preparing for the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti State and Osun State.
In the FCT area council elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won five out of six seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the remaining one.
