Former governor of Osun State and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at the weekend disclosed that he has never been intimate with any other woman since he married his wife, Sherifat.
Aregbesola, who spoke at a solidarity rally held in Ejigbo, Osun State, to celebrate the 61st birthday of the ADC governorship candidate, Najeem Folasayo Salaam, and reaffirm support for his candidacy, said his fidelity was part of a personal test he set for himself, adding that his devotion is solely to God.
Addressing party members in Yoruba, he asserted that his discipline is not common among many men, and that he had used it as a basis for a divine request.
“Oh Lord my God, if you are the one I am serving, and I did not add any other thing to it. What I am about to say, only a few men can say it: Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife.
“I told God that next June, we must do it at the government house,” the former governor said.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026. Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Accord Party, is seeking reelection against Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ADC’s Salaam.
Aregbesola went on to dismiss reports that the party and its have withdrawn from the forthcoming Osun State governorship election or entered into an alliance with another political party.
He described the reports as false, unfounded and misleading, urging members of the public to disregard them.
The former governor said the ADC remained firmly committed to the governorship contest, stressing that the party had neither withdrawn from the election nor entered into any alliance with another political party.
According to him, the party has built a formidable political structure founded on progressive ideals, principles and traditions, making it unnecessary for the ADC to abandon its electoral ambition.
“The ADC is too strong and too well-positioned to negotiate away its political ambition or contemplate an alliance with any other political party. We have built a formidable structure anchored on progressive principles, ideals and traditions.
“We have absolute faith in God and confidence in the support of the people. We are contesting this election to win.”
Aregbesola also praised Salaam’s personal qualities, describing him as a man of integrity, humility, exemplary character and compassion for humanity.
He said these qualities had distinguished the ADC candidate as a leader worthy of public trust, urging the people of Osun State to support the party and its governorship candidate.
