The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its House of Representatives primary election for the 2027 general elections to Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. According to him, only the House of Representatives primaries were affected by the change, while the dates already fixed for other primary elections remain unchanged.

The APC explained that the Senate, State House of Assembly, governorship, and presidential primaries will still hold on their previously scheduled dates. However, the party did not state the reason behind the postponement of the House of Representatives primaries.

The revised timetable released by the ruling party shows that the House of Representatives primaries will now take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The Senate primaries are expected to hold on Monday, May 18, while the State House of Assembly primaries are scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

In addition, the governorship primaries will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2026, while the presidential primary election is fixed for Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The development comes as political parties across Nigeria continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Aspirants seeking elective positions under the APC are also intensifying consultations and campaigns ahead of the party primaries.

Party members and supporters are expected to closely monitor the exercise, especially the presidential primary, which is likely to attract nationwide attention.

The APC leadership has assured members that the primary elections will be conducted according to the party’s guidelines and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Observers believe the exercise will play a major role in shaping the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections.
