Maduka Okoye has been cleared of any wrongdoing by an Italian court after a betting fraud investigation against him was officially dropped.
The decision ends months of uncertainty surrounding the Nigerian goalkeeper and brings relief to both the player and his Italian club, Udinese.
The case came to an end after the betting company involved decided to withdraw its complaint.
During a court hearing in Udine, the judge ruled that there was no reason for the case to continue, effectively ending all legal proceedings against the Super Eagles star.
Okoye had earlier been linked to a betting scandal, which affected his season and temporarily kept him away from action.
As the investigation continued, he missed several important league matches for Udinese at the beginning of the campaign.
The games he missed included fixtures against top Serie A clubs such as Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Although he returned to action in October and resumed regular training and matches, questions about the investigation continued to follow him. The uncertainty created concern among fans and football observers, especially because Okoye is one of Nigeria’s most recognised goalkeepers.
Since making his return, Okoye has impressed with his performances between the posts.
He has kept around 10 clean sheets in 28 league appearances this season, playing an important role in Udinese’s campaign. His performances have helped restore confidence in his ability and strengthened his reputation both in Italy and among Super Eagles supporters.
The court’s final decision is expected to allow the goalkeeper fully focus on his football career again without any legal distractions hanging over him.
