The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has started screening its presidential and governorship aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise is being carried out by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee at the party’s National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.
According to a statement by the National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, the screening of governorship aspirants will begin at 12 noon on Thursday, while the presidential aspirants will be screened at 2 p.m. on the same day.
The presidential screening committee is chaired by former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as secretary. Other members include Alhaji Abba Isawa, Senator George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Mrs Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Senator Zainab Kure, and Lindsey Sora.
For governorship aspirants, the committee is chaired by former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, with George Ariolu as secretary.
Other members include Dr Ibrahim Umar, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Dr Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Alhaji Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Pastor Tony Effiong, and Mrs Precious Ojelabi.
The exercise is part of the party’s preparation for its primaries, as it moves to select candidates who will represent it in the 2027 general elections.
Party officials say the screening is aimed at ensuring only qualified and credible aspirants emerge for the various positions.
The process is expected to be closely monitored by party stakeholders and interest groups within the PDP.
It also comes amid ongoing internal discussions and efforts to strengthen unity ahead of the national elections.
The PDP has assured members that the exercise will be transparent and in line with its constitution and guidelines.
The party further urged all aspirants and members to cooperate fully with the screening committees to ensure a smooth and credible selection process ahead of the 2027 polls.
