The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has announced its intention to contest the recent Appeal Court ruling that upheld Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

The decision was revealed by Hakeem Amode, the Publicity Secretary of Lagos State PDP, in an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

Amode asserted that the party firmly believes justice has not been adequately served in the case of Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, who was the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the election. The Appeal Court’s affirmation of Sanwo-Olu’s re-election has prompted the party to escalate the legal battle to the Supreme Court.

The Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary expressed concerns over the perceived shortcomings in the handling of Adediran’s petitions against the governor’s victory. He highlighted the party’s commitment to pursuing legal avenues to ensure a fair and just resolution.

“We are challenging the ruling of the Appeal Court affirming Sanwo-Olu as winner at the Supreme Court. In a couple of days, our petitions will get to the apex court.

“In the Appeal Court’s rulings, there had been many inconsistencies on its stands on pre-election matters.

“We, as a party, feel justice is yet to be served in our petitions against the outcome of the election in this state.

“We have a strong belief in the Supreme Court to look at the crux of the matter and make a statement that will serve as precedent.”

“The party and our candidate are not deterred. We have reviewed the Appeal Court’s ruling and decided to pursue justice at the Supreme Court,” Amode further said.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose victory was reaffirmed by the Appeal Court, is yet to officially comment on the PDP’s decision to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court.
