Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, saying he no longer has the ability to solve Nigeria’s problems.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, the former Anambra State governor said Tinubu is not leading the country in the right direction and that Nigeria needs a committed and energetic leader.

Obi said the Tinubu who served as governor is different from the one currently serving as president.

“The Bola Tinubu that was governor is not the one that is president today. He is tired and should be allowed to retire in peace,” Obi said.

He added that Tinubu should step aside and allow someone with the energy and capacity to move the country forward.

According to Obi, Nigeria is facing serious challenges, including poverty, insecurity, hunger and poor leadership, but political leaders are not focusing on these important issues.

He referred to a World Bank report which said that about 79 per cent of Nigerians could be living in poverty, adding that this means more than 180 million people may be affected.

Obi also cited a World Food Programme report which estimated that about 35 million Nigerians could face hunger.

He said the country should be discussing issues such as poverty, insecurity, healthcare, education and the growing number of out of school children instead of politics.

Obi stressed that the 2027 general election should focus on solving the problems affecting ordinary Nigerians rather than political disagreements.

He also expressed concern over rising cases of kidnapping and urged leaders to pay more attention to improving the lives of citizens.
