The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Friday released the results of the 2026 Computer-Based CB-WASSCE for private candidates, reporting a modest improvement in performance.

According to the examination body, the performance recorded in the current diet showed a 5.76 per cent improvement when compared to the 26.96 per cent pass rate recorded in the 2025 first series.

The breakdown of the results showed that 32.72% of candidates obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics — up from 26.96% in 2025 and 30.95% in 2024. Another 43.87% secured five credits with or without the core subjects.

WAEC advised candidates who sat for the examination to check their results online and access digital certificates via the official WAEC platform within the next 12 hours.

Top Society reports that the CB-WASSCE is conducted for private candidates as part of WAEC’s drive to modernise its examination system and improve candidates’ experience through computer-based testing.

Acting Head of Public Affairs Moyosola F. Adesina, in a statement issued from the council headquarters at Yaba, Lagos, disclosed that the examination took place across 166 centres in Nigeria between January 28 and February 14.

A total of 10,480 candidates sat for the exam conducted between January 28 and February 14 across 166 centres nationwide. According to WAEC, 8,418 candidates, representing 80.32%, have had their results fully released, while 2,062 candidates still have some subjects being processed due to errors linked to them.

Adesina further revealed that 43 candidates with special needs participated in the exercise and explained that the council provided adequate support for 11 visually impaired persons, four candidates with hearing impairments, and four albinos during the administration of the test.

The examination body also revealed that 75 candidates had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice. “The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination. The Committee’s decisions will be communicated directly to the affected candidates, thereafter,” Adesina said.
