Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema has been announced as one of the performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles.
FIFA confirmed on Saturday that Rema will perform alongside South African singer Tyla, American rapper Future, pop star Katy Perry, Brazilian singer Anitta, and BLACKPINK member LISA.
According to FIFA, three opening ceremonies will be held across the host countries. Mexico City will host the first ceremony on June 11, 2026, while Toronto and Los Angeles will hold theirs on June 12.
FIFA said the ceremonies will celebrate football, music, and entertainment during the tournament taking place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The Los Angeles ceremony will begin 90 minutes before kickoff and will feature performances and entertainment for fans.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the Los Angeles ceremony reflects the size and cultural diversity of the 2026 World Cup.
He added that the lineup shows the influence of different cultures and diasporas in the United States and highlights music’s ability to unite people.
The event will be produced by Balich Wonder Studio and will include large visuals, storytelling, and live performances focused on the FIFA World Cup Trophy.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature 104 matches in 16 cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The tournament will begin on June 11 in Mexico City and end with the final on July 19 at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
