Former President Goodluck Jonathan may soon officially join the 2027 presidential race, as supporters under the Coalition for Jonathan insist that he will contest in the next general election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, the convener of the group, Dr. Tom Ohikere, said Nigerians should not misunderstand Jonathan’s recent comments about the presidency “not being a computer game.”

According to Ohikere, the former president was only trying to explain that running for the highest office in the country is a serious and demanding process that requires careful planning, consultations, and support from different political stakeholders across the nation.

He stated that Jonathan is currently consulting widely and considering calls from many Nigerians and political groups urging him to return to active politics ahead of the 2027 election.

Ohikere expressed confidence that the former president would eventually agree to contest, adding that Jonathan is expected to make his position known very soon, possibly within the next few days.

He also revealed that several supporters believe Jonathan’s experience as a former leader could help address some of Nigeria’s current political and economic challenges.

The coalition leader, who is also a member of the African Democratic Congress, openly called for Jonathan’s return, saying many Nigerians still have confidence in his leadership style.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 before losing his re-election bid to former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. Since leaving office, he has remained active in diplomacy, election monitoring, and peace-building efforts across Africa.

Discussions about a possible political comeback have continued to generate reactions from politicians, analysts, and supporters across the country as preparations for the 2027 election gradually begin.
