Nigeria’s entertainment industry and academic community have been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, theatre practitioner, and scholar, Professor Adekola Akangbe Gabriel Oyewo, popularly known as Professor Kola Oyewo.

The respected actor passed away at the age of 80, bringing an end to a remarkable career that spanned several decades in the fields of acting, education, and cultural promotion.

The news of his death was announced on Friday by his son, Adetoyese Oyewo, through a message posted on Facebook. In the emotional tribute, he described his father as a man whose life was defined by love, wisdom, strength, kindness, and dedication to others.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved father,” he wrote.

According to him, although the family is grieving the painful loss, they are also thankful for the long and impactful life Professor Oyewo lived. He noted that the late actor touched the lives of countless people through his work, mentorship, and personal relationships.

Adetoyese said his father’s legacy would continue to live on through the memories shared by family members, friends, colleagues, students, and admirers across Nigeria and beyond. He also appealed for prayers and support for the family during this difficult period.
