Thousands of users around the world reported problems accessing Facebook and Instagram on Friday, June 12, as a widespread outage disrupted services across several countries.

Users in the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East said they were unexpectedly logged out of their accounts.

Many complained that they could not refresh their feeds, while others encountered blank screens and repeated error messages when attempting to log in or access content.

The outage affected Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger, all of which are owned by Meta. Reports of the disruption quickly spread across other social media platforms, where users shared screenshots and described their experiences.

According to outage-tracking website DownDetector, more than 100,000 users reported login problems on Facebook. The platform also recorded over 9,000 reports of issues affecting Instagram and nearly 20,000 complaints related to Facebook Messenger. The number of reports continued to rise as more users experienced difficulties.

The incident is the latest in a series of service disruptions involving Meta’s family of apps. In March 2026, a similar outage left users in several countries unable to access their accounts or load content for several hours, raising concerns about the reliability of the platforms.

At the time of reporting, Meta had not released an official statement explaining the cause of the outage. However, Andy Stone, a spokesperson for the company, acknowledged the issue in a post on X.

“We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it,” Stone wrote.

Meta did not provide a timeline for when services would be fully restored. As engineers worked to resolve the problem, affected users were advised to remain patient and wait for further updates from the company.

The outage once again highlighted the heavy dependence of millions of people on social media platforms for communication, business, and access to information.
