Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has denied reports that she withdrew from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial race under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a detailed post on her verified X account, Yesufu said she remained in the contest until the end and had no intention of challenging the outcome in court because, according to her, the process was never allowed to take place properly.
She explained that she entered politics because she believes real change can only happen when people actively participate in the political process rather than criticize it from the outside.
According to her:
“As the dust settles on the NDC primaries, I want to make it clear that I did not quit and I did not withdraw from the race.
“I knew the challenges involved. I understood that our political system often works against candidates who want to emerge based on merit and values.
“However, I decided from the beginning that I would not compromise my principles. I did not leave activism for politics; I brought my activism into politics.
“I ran a campaign that I am proud of. We built strong grassroots support and genuine credibility among the people.”
Yesufu maintained that her participation in the race was guided by her commitment to integrity, accountability, and the kind of political change she believes Nigeria needs. She also stressed that her campaign was rooted in grassroots engagement rather than political deals made behind closed doors.
