The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that it has successfully submitted the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal as part of preparations for the 2027 general election.

The party described the submission as an important achievement, saying it reflects its determination to comply with the electoral timetable and all guidelines issued by the electoral commission. According to party officials, completing the upload of Obi’s details marks a major stage in the process of presenting the party’s presidential ticket.

The NDC also disclosed that work is ongoing to complete the nomination of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as its vice-presidential candidate. It expressed confidence that every outstanding requirement would be concluded within the timeframe set by INEC.

The announcement comes after earlier concerns about delays in the nomination process. Those concerns had sparked speculation over whether the party would complete its submissions before the official deadline. However, the latest update from the NDC indicates that the presidential nomination has now been successfully processed.

Party leaders said they remain committed to following every legal and administrative procedure required by the electoral commission. They stressed that the party is focused on ensuring full compliance while preparing for the next phase of the election cycle.

The NDC added that finalising candidate nominations is one of its immediate priorities, noting that it is working to ensure every necessary document is submitted correctly and on time. Officials also reassured supporters that preparations for the general election are progressing according to plan.

Election observers say the nomination process is a critical part of every election because it officially identifies the candidates political parties intend to present to voters. They note that completing this stage allows parties to shift attention to broader campaign activities and voter engagement.

The party further urged its members and supporters to remain calm and continue supporting its activities as preparations for the election gather momentum. It said its focus remains on strengthening its structures and meeting all constitutional and electoral obligations.

INEC has consistently reminded political parties to comply with the approved timetable for candidate submissions, emphasizing that timely compliance is necessary for a smooth and transparent electoral process.

With Peter Obi’s nomination now submitted and Kwankwaso’s expected to follow within the commission’s deadline, attention is likely to shift to the party’s campaign preparations and other political activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
