President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday met with the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting is believed to be linked to ongoing efforts to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who was recently convicted.
On November 20, 2025, a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment on terrorism-related charges. The judgment led to protests and renewed calls for his freedom.
Governor Otti had earlier visited Kanu in the Sokoto prison, where he is serving his sentence. That visit is said to be part of wider legal and political steps aimed at finding a solution to the long-running issue.
During the Sokoto visit, Governor Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; the Abia State Attorney-General, Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN; and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.
After seeing Kanu in prison, Otti said the state government would continue to pursue all lawful options to secure his release. He also confirmed that work was ongoing on an agreed strategy to help free the IPOB leader.
Tuesday’s meeting with President Tinubu is seen as another effort in this direction, as Otti seeks dialogue and possible solutions at the federal level.
As of the time this report was filed, details of what was discussed at the meeting had not yet been made public.
