The Senate has formally confirmed Musa Aliyu as the substantive chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). This decision came following an intensive screening exercise conducted during Thursday’s plenary session.
The screening process, which commenced at approximately 11:50 am, was set in motion after a procedural maneuver initiated by Senate leader Bamidele Opeyemi. This move involved a suspension of relevant senate rules to enable access for external parties into the chamber.
Musa Aliyu, a seasoned lawyer, and the former Attorney-General of Jigawa State, underwent thorough scrutiny during the session, which took place within the Committee of the Whole, presided over by Deputy President Jibirin Barau.
The confirmation of Aliyu as the ICPC chairman was in response to a formal letter sent by President Bola Tinubu to the Senate on Wednesday, advocating for the ratification of Aliyu’s appointment to lead the agency.
