Seyi Makinde may officially announce his intention to run for president in the 2027 election during a rally scheduled for Thursday at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

The event, called “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is expected to also mark the beginning of a political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State.

At the rally, Makinde is expected to present several politicians contesting for state and national positions under the APM platform.

Some of the politicians likely to be unveiled include:

Bimbo Adekanmbi as governorship candidate

Stanley Olajide, Olufemi Ajadi, and Shina Peller as senatorial candidates

Candidates for the House of Representatives and House of Assembly are also expected to be introduced.

Reports say leaders of the APM and the Taminu Turaki faction of the PDP will sign an agreement before the rally to formalise their alliance.

A PDP source said the alliance would involve APM leaders and PDP members loyal to Taminu Turaki, adding that Makinde is expected to declare his presidential ambition on the APM platform.

Preparations for the rally have intensified, with political leaders and supporters expected to arrive in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Sources said the rally would attract political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, and supporters from across the country who align with Makinde’s leadership style and political vision.

Although Makinde has not officially confirmed his presidential ambition, many support groups and political associates have continued to urge him to contest in 2027.

The move is also seen as part of efforts to strengthen his political structure and influence ahead of the next general election.

Earlier in January 2026, after meeting with Bola Tinubu, Makinde said he remained loyal to the PDP and supported bipartisan cooperation on issues affecting Nigerians, especially security and poverty.

He also clarified that working with other parties does not mean he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
