The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is expected to step down from his position in the coming days.
His Special Adviser on Media, Tunji Bolaji, said Adelabu has received approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pursue his ambition of becoming a state governor.
Bolaji explained that Adelabu recently met with the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he presented a report of his work in the power sector over the past two and a half years.
President Tinubu praised the minister for his efforts and the progress made, especially in setting up policies to improve Nigeria’s power sector. He also gave his support for Adelabu’s political plans.
Before leaving office, Adelabu highlighted some of his achievements. These include:
Efforts to improve electricity generation
Strengthening power transmission
Introducing reforms to make the sector more efficient
He also presented key policy documents, including the National Integrated Electricity Policy (NIEP) and its implementation plan. These are designed to guide long-term development, improve electricity access, and support renewable energy.
Bolaji added that the plan focuses on improving generation, transmission, and distribution, while also addressing regulatory issues, attracting investment, and developing local expertise.
He noted that the sector has faced challenges recently, such as reduced power generation caused by gas supply problems, pipeline repairs, and unpaid debts to gas suppliers.
Adelabu thanked the president for his support and said he remains committed to the growth of Nigeria’s power sector and national development.
