Members of the South West branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently divided over issues involving Seyi Makinde and Ayodele Fayose.

A group within the party that supports Governor Makinde has openly declared its loyalty to him. The group also reaffirmed its support for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Aminu Turaki.

Speaking for this group, the South West PDP Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, said the party stands with Nigerians during the country’s current economic and security challenges.

He added that the party is focused on providing better leadership and improving people’s lives.

Atofarati praised Makinde’s leadership, saying he has shown stability, focus, and concern for the welfare of the people.

The group also dismissed rumors that there is a plan to impeach the governor, calling such claims false and meant to create tension.

They criticized Fayose for making comments they described as careless and divisive, especially those involving traditional institutions.

According to them, his statements do not reflect the position of the PDP in the South West.

The group further stated that Fayose remains expelled from the party and warned him against actions that could cause problems between the Makinde government and the Olubadan Palace.

They also stressed the need for unity and discipline within the party and pledged full support for the current national leadership.

Opposing Faction Reacts
Meanwhile, another PDP faction in the South West, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, rejected the Ibadan press conference held by the Makinde group.

In a statement by its spokesman, Akinloye Oyeniyi, the faction described those at the event as impostors who do not represent the party in any official capacity.
He claimed that the actual zonal leaders were not present in Ibadan at the time. According to him, the Zonal Chairman, Deji Doherty, was in Abuja attending an official party meeting.

Oyeniyi dismissed the press conference as false and accused the group of trying to create instability within the party. He also criticized them harshly, saying their actions would eventually have consequences.

Overall, the situation shows deep divisions within the PDP in the South West, with different factions strongly disagreeing over leadership and party direction.
