President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to start distributing rice in all states of Nigeria. The goal is to help families during the fasting seasons of Ramadan and Lent.
The government said the programme is meant to support Nigerians during these important religious periods. Ramadan and Lent are times when many Muslims and Christians fast and focus on charity, kindness, and helping others.
The rice will be shared across the country through local networks in each state, local government, and ward so that many families can benefit.
President Tinubu said a similar rice distribution programme was done during the Christmas celebration last year to help Nigerians during the festive season.
The president explained that this effort shows his administration’s commitment to supporting citizens during important religious and cultural events and promoting unity among Nigerians.
Both Muslim and Christian communities will receive the rice as part of the programme.
The Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Hope Uzodimma, said the initiative shows the president’s commitment to unity and care for citizens.
He added that Ramadan and Lent remind Nigerians about sacrifice, generosity, and caring for others. According to him, the organisation will make sure the rice reaches communities across the country.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors programme, launched in February 2026, is designed to connect with citizens at the grassroots level, support communities, and promote unity under the Tinubu–Shettima administration.
Government officials also said the rice distribution will focus on reaching low-income households and vulnerable groups, especially families struggling with the rising cost of food and other basic needs. Community leaders and local coordinators are expected to work with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors network to identify beneficiaries and ensure the support gets to those who need it most during the fasting period.
Some citizens and civil society groups have welcomed the initiative, saying it could provide temporary relief for many households observing the fasting seasons.
However, others have called for long-term measures to address food prices and economic hardship, noting that while food support programmes help in the short term, broader economic reforms are needed to improve living conditions for Nigerians.
