Nigerian singer and Grammy Award winner Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun professionally known as Wizkid, has revealed that women inspire his music.

The afrobeats star in a now deleted X post revealed that women are the inspiration behind his music.

He wrote: “Women inspire music! Gods on earth.”

The afrobeats artist stated that women serve as a significant source of inspiration for his work. The singer is known for his romantic songs, dedicated to women. His recent album, ‘Morayo’ is dedicated to his late mum, Morayo Jane Balogun.

The album ‘Morayo’ has set a new record for the biggest opening week for an African album on Spotify with 52.8 million streams.

The album also broke Tyla’s record for the highest number of first week streams for an African album on Spotify with 48 million streams in six days.

Wizkid achieved international recognition following his collaboration with Drake on the hit single ‘One Dance’ which reached number-one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in 14 additional countries in 2016.

‘One Dance’ broke multiple records, making Wizkid the first Afrobeats artist to appear in the Guinness World Records.

In 2019, he was featured on Beyoncé’s project The Lion King: The Gift on the single ‘Brown Skin Girl’ which also reached number one on the World Digital Song Sales chart, and won him a Grammy Award for Best Music Video.

His recent album, ‘Morayo’ released on the 22nd of November 2024, and broke record for the biggest streaming debut for an African album on Spotify.
