Cameroon, Morocco and Algeria have become the first three teams to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Cameroon were the first side to book a place in the last eight after defeating Ghana 1-0 on Sunday. The victory moved the Indomitable Lionesses to six points from their opening two matches, putting them at the top of Group D.
With one group game still to play against Cape Verde, Cameroon have already done enough to guarantee a top-two finish in the group.
This means they will progress to the knockout stage regardless of the result of their final group match.
Hosts Morocco also secured a place in the quarter-finals after playing out a goalless draw against Senegal in Rabat on Monday night.
Although they were unable to find the back of the net, the single point was enough to see the Atlas Lionesses finish at the top of Group A with seven points from three matches.
Algeria joined Morocco in the knockout stage after beating Kenya 2-0 in their final Group A fixture.
The impressive victory earned Algeria six points from three matches, ensuring they finished second in the group behind the hosts.
With Cameroon, Morocco and Algeria already through to the quarter-finals, attention now shifts to the remaining group matches as other teams battle for the remaining places in the last eight of the continental tournament.
