Fresh political tension within the Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to attract public attention following the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 polls.
Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada has now appealed to former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and other dissatisfied party members to put aside differences and work together for the progress of the APC in the state.
The appeal comes amid growing disagreements within the ruling party after the conclusion of the primary election that produced Wadada as the APC governorship candidate. The development sparked mixed reactions among party supporters, with some members expressing satisfaction while others questioned the credibility of the exercise.
Wadada, while addressing supporters and party stakeholders, emphasized the importance of unity and reconciliation within the APC.
According to him, internal disputes should not be allowed to weaken the party’s structure or create unnecessary divisions among loyal members who share a common political goal.
The senator reportedly urged Mohammed Adamu to see the primary election as part of the democratic process, noting that political contests naturally produce winners and losers. He stressed that every political leader must learn to accept outcomes in the interest of peace and party stability.
Political observers say the rivalry between the two prominent figures has become one of the most discussed issues in Nasarawa politics in recent weeks. Both men are considered influential within the APC and command strong support bases across different parts of the state.
Supporters of Wadada insist that his emergence reflects the wishes of party delegates and grassroots members who participated in the primary election. They argue that the senator’s political experience, visibility, and growing popularity played a major role in securing his victory.
On the other hand, loyalists of Mohammed Adamu have continued to raise concerns over the conduct of the primary election, claiming that the process failed to meet expectations of fairness and transparency. The disagreement has since triggered political debates across the state, with party leaders working behind the scenes to calm tensions.
Many APC stakeholders in Nasarawa have expressed concern that prolonged disputes within the party could affect its strength ahead of the next governorship election. Political analysts believe reconciliation among aggrieved members will be crucial if the party hopes to maintain unity and avoid internal fractures before 2027.
Wadada, however, appears determined to promote peace within the party. In his remarks, he reportedly warned against bitterness, personal attacks, and statements capable of creating hostility among supporters. He maintained that politics should not destroy relationships built over years of political cooperation.
The senator also encouraged party members to focus on the broader objective of strengthening the APC in Nasarawa State rather than allowing personal ambition to divide loyal supporters. According to him, unity remains the only path toward achieving lasting political success for the party.
The situation has continued to generate reactions among political observers who believe the APC leadership at both state and national levels may eventually intervene more directly to ensure peace among all parties involved.
Some analysts have noted that political disagreements after party primaries are not unusual in Nigeria’s political system, especially when major positions are involved.
However, they warn that unresolved conflicts can sometimes weaken party structures and create opportunities for opposition parties to gain support.
Despite the tension, efforts toward reconciliation are reportedly ongoing, with party elders and influential stakeholders holding consultations aimed at restoring calm within the APC fold. Many supporters are hopeful that the disagreements will eventually be resolved through dialogue and compromise.
Wadada’s latest comments are being interpreted by many political observers as part of broader efforts to rebuild confidence within the party and reduce the growing tension among supporters of different aspirants.
As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, attention is expected to remain focused on how the APC manages its internal affairs in Nasarawa State. The ability of party leaders to unite supporters after the primary election may play a major role in determining the strength of the APC during the governorship race.
For now, calls for reconciliation, tolerance, and political maturity continue to dominate discussions within the state’s political environment as stakeholders seek ways to prevent further division within the ruling party.
