The Osun State members of the House of Representatives from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rejected the recent governorship primary election in the state. They claimed the election was influenced by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
In a statement by Hon. Bamidele Salam and five other lawmakers on Wednesday, they criticized Governor Makinde and asked him to stop actions that could disrupt politics in Osun.
The lawmakers said the primary was fraudulent and involved “thugs and political jobbers” from Ibadan, Oyo State. They stressed that proper PDP procedures, like the election of ward and national delegates, were ignored.
They also warned the declared candidate, Adebayo Adedamola Fryo, not to present himself as the PDP candidate. They said doing so would be considered criminal impersonation and could provoke party members in Osun
.The lawmakers advised Governor Makinde to avoid interfering in Osun politics, saying the state already has a governor who consults widely in decision-making.
Finally, they called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reject the results of the alleged primary and follow the PDP Constitution and the Electoral Act when selecting candidates.
