Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has cleared up comments made by Nigeria coach Eric Chelle about his absence from the upcoming friendly matches against Poland and Portugal.
Recently, Chelle said Osimhen needed time to focus on issues related to his club career and possible transfer plans during the off-season. The comments led to speculation among fans and the media about the striker’s future.
However, Osimhen has now explained that the coach’s words were misunderstood and taken out of context. He revealed that he spoke directly with Chelle to discuss the matter and confirmed that there is no disagreement between them.
According to Osimhen, the coach respects his club commitments, follows his matches regularly, and never intended to create any controversy.
The striker also expressed his support for Chelle, describing him as a coach he respects and enjoys working with.
Osimhen said:
“I just got off the phone with Coach Eric Chelle regarding the comments about me in his recent interview. Unfortunately, his words have been taken out of context and blown out of proportion. He has great respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our games, and never intended to create any controversy.
“I appreciate the conversation, the opportunity to always represent my country, and I look forward to continuing to work with him. He is a great coach whom I respect a lot, and I kindly ask everyone to disregard the speculation surrounding this matter.
“Thank you for your consistent support.”
His statement is expected to end rumours of any conflict between him and the Super Eagles coach.
Although Osimhen will miss the upcoming friendly matches, he remains one of Nigeria’s key players and is expected to play an important role in future international competitions.
With the issue now clarified, attention will shift back to the Super Eagles’ preparations for upcoming tournaments as Chelle continues building on the team’s recent success in the Unity Cup.
