The Federal Government has announced that starting January 1, 2026, people will no longer be allowed to pay cash for government services. Instead, all payments must be done electronically.
According to a document released by the Ministry of Finance, the government will fully introduce a new e-receipt called the Federal Treasury e-Receipt (FTeR). This will be the only official receipt accepted for any payment made to the government.

The government will also launch the Revenue Optimisation Platform (RevOp). This is a digital platform that will track and manage payments received by all federal agencies.
The Ministry explained that this new system will:
Reduce corruption and illegal deductions
Help government recover lost revenue
Improve transparency in financial transactions
Stop cash handling
Provide real-time monitoring of payments
The system will connect various government financial systems such as the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the CBN, FIRS, MDAs and others so that all payments can be monitored in one place.
The Ministry described this change as a major step towards improving accountability and strengthening Nigeria’s financial system.
