Details have surfaced regarding the delay in constituting a panel to investigate allegations raised against Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The Ondo State House of Assembly had instructed Chief Judge Justice Olusegun Odusola to establish the panel within seven days, following Aiyedatiwa’s alleged failure to respond to the accusations.

Sources close to the matter have revealed that Justice Odusola responded by addressing a letter to Speaker Olamide Oladiji, elucidating the reasons for the panel’s delayed formation.
According to the letter, Justice Odusola declined to execute the Assembly’s directive until the order of an Abuja Federal High Court was vacated.
This development is directly tied to the recent interim order granted by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Abuja Federal High Court, which effectively halted the impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The seven-day deadline for the panel’s establishment expired on Tuesday, raising questions about the next steps in this ongoing political drama.

Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, the Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, confirmed that they had received the Chief Judge’s letter. He emphasized that the lawmakers have collectively resolved to adhere to due process in their pursuit of investigating the allegations against Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa.
He said,
“Section 188 is clear on how to impeach anybody. It is when the steps are violated that you can go to court.
“We will follow due process no matter the hindrance. The interim order is a small setback.”
