NIS Adds “Passport Produced” Status to Improve Passport Tracking

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced a new update to its passport application tracking system aimed at improving transparency and keeping applicants better informed about the status of their passports. The new feature, tagged “Passport Produced,” notifies applicants when their passports have been successfully printed and are ready for collection or courier delivery.
The Service disclosed the update in an official statement, explaining that the addition enhances the existing tracking platform by clearly indicating when the production stage has been completed. Under the new system, applicants can now easily distinguish between applications still being processed and those that are already available for pickup or awaiting dispatch through approved courier services.
According to the NIS, the upgrade is designed to address long-standing concerns from applicants who often experience uncertainty about when their passports are ready. In the past, many applicants relied on physical visits to passport offices or repeated enquiries to confirm their status, leading to congestion at offices and frustration among applicants. The new “Passport Produced” alert is expected to significantly reduce such challenges.

The Immigration Service noted that the update will help applicants plan better by giving them clear information on timelines. Once the status shows “PRODUCED (Passport Produced, Ready for Collection),” applicants can proceed to collect their passports at their chosen passport office or wait for delivery if they opted for courier service during application.
This development forms part of the NIS’s broader efforts to modernise its operations through digital solutions. Over the years, the Service has introduced online application systems, appointment scheduling, and tracking tools to streamline passport processing and improve service delivery across the country and at Nigerian missions abroad.

The NIS also emphasised that while the new feature improves communication, applicants are still advised to ensure their applications are complete and accurate, as issues such as biometric errors, documentation gaps, or security checks may affect processing timelines.

By enhancing its tracking system with clearer status updates, the Nigeria Immigration Service says it is reinforcing its commitment to efficiency, accountability, and customer focused service, while aligning passport administration with global best practices.
