Famous Nigerian Afrobeats icon, David Adedeji Adeleke professionally known as Davido has implied that unlike the United States of America, Nigeria does not have true democracy.
Appearing in a recent episode of The Morning Hustle podcast, the singer stated that he congratulated Donald Trump after his electoral victory despite voting for his opponent, Kamala Harris because he believes in the American democracy.
“I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him.
“What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from, it’s not so.
“To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool.” He added
The singer was born in Atlanta, United States, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. Davido made his music debut as a member of the group KB International.
He is a cultural ambassador for Nigeria and a prominent voice of human rights in Africa and is also one of the most-followed African artists on Instagram and Twitter( now X).
Davido and Nigerian singer Lojay were featured in Chris Brown’s song entitled “Sensational” in 2023. The song debuted at number 96 on the US Billboard Hot 100, serving as Davido and Lojay’s first entry on the chart.
Due to his hardwork, the Afrobeats star received three nominations at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, including Best Global Music Album for Timeless and Best African Music Performance for ‘Unavailable’.
