The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will make important decisions on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Friday.
CAF’s Executive Committee will meet in Dar es Salaam to discuss both tournaments.
The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to take place in Morocco next month. However, because of a busy international football calendar and concerns about whether Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are fully ready to host the 2027 AFCON, the tournament could be postponed to 2028.
CAF is also expected to decide on the host for the Women’s AFCON. There are reports that Morocco may withdraw as host, while South Africa is prepared to take over if that happens.
If the 2027 AFCON is moved to 2028, it would give the co-hosts more time to complete stadiums, improve facilities and prepare properly for the tournament.
CAF wants to ensure that the competition meets high standards and runs smoothly.
The decisions taken at the meeting are expected to have a big impact on African football. Many fans, teams and officials are waiting to hear the final outcome from CAF.
