The family of veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has asked the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest a TikTok user who spread false news about his death.
The rumour began after a TikToker posted a video claiming that the popular actor had died. The report quickly went viral on social media, causing panic among fans and well-wishers.
However, the actor’s family and management quickly dismissed the claim, describing it as false.
His first son, Leo Edochie, also reacted strongly to the rumour. In a video shared on his Instagram page, Leo said the news was completely untrue and described it as “a lie from the pit of hell.”
In a Facebook post on Thursday evening, Leo revealed that he had contacted the DSS to track down and arrest the TikTok user responsible for the false report. He shared a photo of the suspect and identified his handle as @ONE_BOR 001.
Leo said anyone who provides useful information that leads to the arrest of the TikToker will receive a cash reward. According to him, security agents are already on the matter.
The family stressed that Pete Edochie is alive and in good health. They urged the public to ignore the false report and avoid spreading unverified information.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the spread of fake news on social media and the emotional distress it can cause to families and the public.
