Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned that Nigeria could face a revolution if the alleged violation of human rights continues.
He made this statement on Thursday night during a visit to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The visit followed an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where El-Rufai reportedly had a confrontation with security officials after returning from Cairo, Egypt.
According to reports, officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission> (EFCC) seized El-Rufai’s international passport and allegedly attempted to arrest him at the airport.
Speaking about the incident, Atiku said the government should learn from what happened, especially how ordinary Nigerians at the airport resisted the move.
He said the people acted on their own to stop what they believed was wrong, adding that authorities must understand that citizens may no longer tolerate actions they see as violations of their rights.
Atiku described the incident at the airport as unnecessary and warned that continued disregard for human rights could push Nigerians to demand serious change.
