Dangote Industries Limited has started early plans to build a 10,000-hectare deep seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State.
The company said the project is part of its Vision 2030 plan to expand its industrial and manufacturing business and strengthen Nigeria’s export sector.
The proposed seaport will be located in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and will extend to Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State along the Atlantic coast. The port is expected to improve the movement of goods, reduce pressure on existing ports, and support economic growth.
A team from Dangote Industries, led by the Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics, Capt. Jamil Abubakar, recently visited communities in Ogun and Ondo states to begin discussions with local stakeholders.
Abubakar said the Olokola Port project would help unlock Nigeria’s economic potential, improve trade activities, and create jobs and business opportunities for people in the host communities.
He also explained that the port’s location would make it an important centre for exports and imports, helping Nigeria compete better in regional and international trade.
The seaport is planned to support the export of fertilisers, petrochemicals, refined petroleum products, and future liquefied natural gas exports. It will also handle the importation of heavy industrial equipment.
Dangote officials said they would continue to engage with host communities throughout the project.
Communities visited during the preliminary consultations included Ode-Omi in Ogun State, Araromi Seaside Kingdom, and Igbokoda in Ondo State.
The Lenuwa of Ode-Omi, Oba Folailu Adekunle Hassan, welcomed the project and approved surveys and household enumeration. The Alara of Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, also expressed support for the project.
Military officials at the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda also backed the proposed seaport development.
