The Akure High Court, located in the capital city of Ondo State, has ruled on the case brought forward by the embattled Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, challenging his impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
Justice O. Akintan-Osadebay, presiding over the case, delivered a verdict that has caught the attention of legal experts and the public alike. The court, in its ruling, declared that it did not have jurisdiction to hear the case, citing the need to prevent conflicting judgments between the Ondo High Court and the Abuja Federal High Court.
Furthermore, Justice Akintan-Osadebay strongly criticized what she referred to as “forum shopping,” wherein the same case is instituted in multiple courts. She deemed this practice a gross abuse of the court process.
It should be noted that Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa had approached the court with a suit designated as AK/348/2023, which was filed on September 25, 2023, in an attempt to halt the House of Assembly’s impeachment proceedings against him.
