Born and raised in Benin City, Nigeria, on March 28, 1964, Onyema attended several primary and secondary schools, including St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Azia, Urhobo College Effurun, Government College Ughelli, and the University of Ibadan, where he pursued Law and graduated in 1984.
Allen Onyema encountered numerous challenges on his path to success. Following his law studies at the University of Ibadan, he entered the legal profession. After completing Law school and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service, Onyema joined the chambers of Chief Vincent Amobi Nwizugbo in 1990, in Lagos. Within two years, Onyema’s proficiency in his field earned him the position of Head of Chambers. Eventually, his success in the real estate sector led him to establish his own real-estate business, Allen Onyema & Company.

In 2013, Onyema founded Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest and fastest-growing airline. Driven by a vision to provide safe, affordable, and reliable air travel to Nigerians, he embarked on a mission to redefine the standards of the aviation industry in the country. Despite encountering initial skepticism and obstacles, Onyema’s perseverance and dedication propelled Air Peace to unprecedented heights.
Since its inception in 2017, Air Peace has expanded its services to major cities in Nigeria and international destinations such as Senegal, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, the United Arab Emirates, India, China, the USA, and Gambia. With a fleet that includes three Boeing 777s, Air Peace is undeniably one of Nigeria’s largest airlines. Additionally, plans are underway for Air Peace to commence flights from Nigeria to the United Kingdom in March.
Under Onyema’s leadership, Air Peace has not only expanded its fleet but has also garnered a reputation for excellence in safety and customer service. The airline operates a comprehensive network of domestic, regional, and international routes, connecting cities within Nigeria and beyond. Since successfully organizing the first Nigeria Forever Project in 2005, with the support of the Federal Government to promote broad nationalism over ethnic nationalism, the 60-year-old lawyer has continuously demonstrated his commitment to societal welfare.
In September 2019, Onyema played a pivotal role in the evacuation of Nigerians from South Africa following Xenophobic attacks. Whether evacuating stranded Nigerians during the COVID-19 crisis or providing humanitarian assistance, Onyema’s philanthropic efforts have positively impacted countless lives, earning widespread admiration and respect.
In April 2023, he repeated this feat by evacuating no fewer than 277 Nigerians, particularly students, who were stranded in Sudan due to the outbreak of war.
In July 2023, Dr. Allen Onyema rewarded sports heroes with free air tickets, stating that members of the Montreal Olympics team and the 1980 Green Eagles would receive 12 return tickets each year to travel within the country for their lifetime. They are also entitled to one international return ticket annually to fly to any country covered by the airline for the rest of their lives.
