Elders in Ondo State convened on Tuesday, heeding the call of Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, to address the persistent political crisis engulfing the state.
The focus of their concern revolves around the strained relationship between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, his deputy Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the state House of Assembly.
National Leaders, Elders Call for Restraint in Ondo State Political Crisis
In a resolution from the meeting, the elders, emphasizing the necessity of good governance, implored President Bola Tinubu and APC National Chairman Alhaji Umar Ganduje to step in and find a resolution to the deepening crisis.
They also resolved that “all unelected persons should allow the three arms of government in Ondo State to find a lasting solution to the current crisis. The rule of law should be followed by all stakeholders as enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution.”
The elders lamented the lack of communication between the governor and his deputy, attributing it to the deputy’s inability to fulfill constitutional duties. They stressed that impeachment was not the solution, advocating for a swift resolution to ensure the smooth governance of the state.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Tinubu, is hereby passionately called upon to intervene and end the present constitutional crisis in the state, to avoid the looming breakdown of law and order in Ondo State,” the elders pleaded.
