In a recent announcement, the Nigerian Government has declared the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, slated to commence from the stroke of midnight on Saturday, October 21, and continue until the stroke of midnight on Sunday, October 22.
This decision, as unveiled by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, has been necessitated by the critical need for extensive rehabilitation works on the bridge, with the initial focus being on repairing the bridge’s crucial sections.
Addressing the concerns of the motoring public, Kesha assured that the government is actively strategizing to execute a comprehensive overhaul of the Third Mainland Bridge.

“However, in order to alleviate the pains currently being experienced on the bridge, the Ministry would be carrying out palliative works on the most critically failed sections along the Adeniji bound carriageway on Sunday, Oct. 22 preparatory to the comprehensive repair works,” she said.
She urged drivers to collaborate with the traffic management personnel by complying with and adhering to all detours as instructed, ensuring smooth and unhindered traffic flow.
“However, motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible during the period of the palliative works as the Adeniji bound of the bridge will be closed to traffic from Saturday, Oct. 21 to Sunday, 22nd 12.00 midnight,” she said.
This move comes in the wake of growing apprehension regarding the structural integrity and safety of the bridge.
